PVC injection molding
What is polyvinyl chloride (PVC)?
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a versatile thermoplastic available in both rigid (rigid PVC) and flexible (soft PVC) variants. The material is known for its wear resistance, chemical resistance, naturally flame-retardant properties, good bondability and dimensional stability, making it widely used in technical products. PVC is well suited for injection molding thanks to its excellent processability, stable processing behavior and broad applicability. As a result, it is commonly used for seals, technical couplings, electrical components, caps & closures and protective parts.

Why choose PVC injection molding?
1. High wear resistance and dimensional stability
PVC has a strong and rigid structure (rigid PVC), making it ideal for technical components that are subjected to long-term loads or require mechanical stability.
2. Excellent chemical resistance
Polyvinyl chloride is resistant to acids, bases, oils and many chemicals. This makes PVC injection molding an excellent choice for products used in aggressive or humid environments.
3. Electrically insulating and flame-retardant
PVC has naturally flame-retardant properties and high electrical resistance. It is therefore widely used in electrical components, connectors, protective covers and housings.
4. Widely applicable across many sectors
PVC is used in construction, industry, electrical engineering, piping systems, consumer products and technical components. The combination of durability and functional properties makes PVC a versatile choice.
5. Good surface finish and dimensional accuracy
PVC provides a clean and reproducible end result, making it suitable for both visible parts and precise technical fits.
6. Easy to bond and recyclable
PVC bonds well with adhesives and other joining methods, allowing components to be easily assembled. In addition, the material can be mechanically recycled, enabling reuse of production waste and contributing to a more sustainable manufacturing process.
The properties of polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
The advantages of PVC plastic
This material offers a combination of strength, durability and chemical resistance, along with excellent insulating and stable properties.
Key material properties:
- Rigid and dimensionally stable (rigid PVC)
- Wear-resistant and durable
- Easy to bond
- Naturally flame-retardant
- Chemically resistant to many substances
- Electrically insulating and inherently flame-retardant
- Low moisture absorption and high dimensional stability
Disadvantages of PVC
Despite the wide applicability of PVC, the material also has certain limitations that must be taken into account. These can affect its suitability for specific applications.
- Higher density than many other plastics, resulting in greater weight
- Flexible PVC variants contain plasticizers; some applications require specific compounds

Costs and
lead times of PVC injection molding
The costs of PVC injection molding are determined by the design, production volume and the selected PVC type (rigid or flexible PVC). PVC has a relatively low raw material price, but variations in composition and desired properties such as flame retardancy, color consistency or flexibility can influence the final material and production costs.
Factors influencing the price:
- Type of PVC: rigid PVC, soft PVC (with plasticizers) and UV-resistant PVC have different price ranges
- Color: custom colors or high color consistency increase material costs
- Material usage: thicker or impact-resistant products require more raw material per part
- Properties & additives: UV stabilizers or flexible compounds increase cost
Average delivery times:
- Standard PVC: usually available from stock or within 1–2 weeks
- Special PVC compounds or custom colors: 2–6 weeks lead time, depending on availability and formulation
