Eggie – Breeding chamber for soldier flies

Eggie, the system that integrates the entire life cycle of a fly in one place.

After years of development, InsectoCycle proudly introduces a patented breeding cage for mass production of black soldier fly eggs.

Part of the breeding cage is Eggie, a grid on which female flies lay their larval eggs. The grids are placed in the cage in multiple “cycles” to create optimal conditions for the insects.

Together with Insectocyle, Orange Plastics developed and produced the innovative grid.

Black soldier fly larvae are rich in protein and are used in many food products.

Besides being easy to grow, they require minimal resources and water to grow. This makes them extremely sustainable because they don’t burden the environment. Sustainability is a high priority for Orange Plastics.

Moreover, Orange Plastics is keen to contribute to innovations in its own country. This project required extreme urgency, which we were able to respond effectively to. Because Orange Plastics builds its own molds, we produced a mold within three weeks, and the first grids were in use in no time.
